My work is about capturing my experiences in nature, which is where I find the essence of life itself. From playing in the snow as a young child in Michigan, where I was born, to my explorations of our country, I have always been enthralled by nature. Inspired by the flora and fauna of Hawaii, I began my painting career while living on the Big Island where I studied with Jane Chao, a master of watercolor on silk. After moving to Kentucky, where I now reside part time, I began studies and work with oils, also. A part time residence in Florida provides my favorite subject matter; the flora, fauna and landscape of the tropics.
My former careers have included professional photography and theatrical costume design. I use my collection of over 5,000 nature photographs that I have taken for subject matter in my art.
Being in nature is where I feel most alive and inspired. Whether at the sea or in the mountains or watching the colors glisten from the sunlight on the snow, I stand in awe of the beauty of nature. I hope to share some of that experience with you through my art.
